How Stitch cured me of my boredom.

It was supposed to be another night of solo Netflix and chill. I was scrolling almost endlessly looking for something to watch I thought the streaming service failed me until I found ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’. I watched the first 20 minutes of it and I could not get myself to focus. The Lilo and Stitch DIY porcelain painting kit that I bought that afternoon kept making its appearance in my mind whilst watching. After doing some internal debating, I caved in, stopped the film and brought the kit out.

The kit was not a part of my shopping list. As I was making my way to Boots, I saw it displayed in a shop window. There were Stitch plushies in the window as well but the DIY kit got my attention. I immediately went inside the shop and bought it.

After turning the TV off and got Alexa to play some music, I plopped myself on my desk and unboxed my still very pale friend.

After carefully examining the figurine (found some defects but never mind) and the paint and brushes that came with it, I began painting. Started colouring Stitch’s light blue parts: around his eyes, under his mouth and belly. Painting this reminded me why I don’t do it. I found it hard to stay within the lines even with adequate lighting and using the finer brush. It was easier with crayons!!! I tried to make it perfect by correcting and reapplying paint. After a while, I just gave up on being too perfect. The little instruction manual said that I can just paint over the error.

Following the light blues, I proceeded with the dark blues on the top of his head, his nose and his tiny claws. Then painted the edge of his eyelids and eyeballs black. Afterwards, I applied a small dot of white on each eyeballs.

The next step was painting his body with a royal blue(ish) colour. For that to be achieved, according to the instructions, I needed to blend the white and dark blue paints together. Started painting Stitch’s back, arms, legs and ears, using the wider brush provided and used the fine brush for the corners and hard to reach places.

I was having fun even though my painting skills are yet to be desired. I washed my paint brushes and dried them up then proceeded to paint the ears. The pink colour has a lovely touch of lilac which was cute. I applied 2 coats of pink and voila!! My little masterpiece!!

I enjoyed this somewhat messy activity and I will definitely do this again!
